Day Two: Listening and Being Heard

girlvana yoga and meditation for teen girls

I woke up on a beautiful Monday morning to the bright hot sun and singing birds. We talked, laughed and got to know each other better over probably one of the best breakfasts I have a ever had, ft. sourdough bread and honey butter. Afterwards we went to the yoga room to journal. We did prompt questions to become more truthful and honest with ourselves. We also discussed and discovered what it means to give an honest answer to important questions and how to listen to our bodies and our intuition.

Afterwards to cool down from the sun and the relaxing/enlightening yoga class, we took a hike to Cable Bay to swim and laugh in the salt water and the sun. We ate snacks, danced, sang and listened to music on the beach. I had the chance to talk to one of the amazing mentors. It made me realize that there are people who are here for me and who care about the things going on in my life.

At the end of the day we had the chance to hear from the mentors, who answered tough questions which made me feel connected to myself and the other girls. It made me feel like I had a safe place and environment to discuss some hard topics that weren’t usually/voluntarily opened up for discussion. We also were able to display our thoughts and feelings about feminism and patriarchy on a self crafted poster. We took photos and explained what we wrote and why we wrote it on our posters.

I had the best day with the amazing mentors and amazing girls. I hadn’t laughed as real and as joyfully as I did last night in a very long time. At Girlvana I feel loved, wanted, important and like I can speak my truth. It’s only day 2 and I’m absolutely loving my time here.
